Wait, who created that interactive YouTube ad? Tipp-Ex!?

Of all the companies to come up with a totally unique and interactive YouTube campaign, white out maker Tipp-Ex would not be near the top of the list. But they have managed to create an interactive, truly fun, and viral (over 9.9 million channel views for the intro video) set of videos.

In the video a bear is eating from a tent, and a hunter holds a gun up to shoot him. After deciding he is unable to shoot the bear, he reaches off the screen, grabs the giant Tipp-Ex roller and whites out the ‘shoots’ in the ‘A hunter shoots a bear.’ The viewer is then asked to put words into where ‘shoots’ was. For example, if you type hug in, and hit enter, a video of the hunter and the bear in a long embrace appears. There are tons of videos created, so go ahead and type in any amount of fun words and see what they do!

While the initial video obviously isn’t an actual YouTube page, Tipp-Ex has create a frame to put on top of the page that looks very authentic. This will most likely be a trailblazer for YouTube interactivity campaigns because of its combination of humor and originality.

What do you think of the campaign?

Just goes to show how people wanted to connect and belong to groups back before the days of the Internet.

Internet Speed & Good Advice From Scott Kirsner on Pitching Boston.com
Kirsner points out at the beginning of his post today that in one year “two things I notice changing about the way I choose to cover things” - 1. On his blog he now covers mainly big, almost-ready-to-break news stories THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN COVERED. 2. Embargoes no longer interest him as they will surely leak out somewhere online before an embargo date.   Both of these reporting shifts in the way Scott handles news leads are a reaction to the increasing speed with which stories make and spread across news sites and social media.
Good marketers and media relations practitioners have been adjusting to new forms of media for decades - Radio, TV, The initial Internet all forced marketers to approach and work with media in new ways; Now the big difference is time shift.  Instead of decades, today it’s years or even months in which roles and tactics must be evaluated and adjusted to fit the new rules and time frames that reporters like Scott Kirsner race up against. Great marketers and publicists understand this,  have already made the adjustment and approach a reporter like Scott only when they know a story is fresh and will do everything in their power to make certain the story stays locked down until they see it post to Boston.com.

This awesome bit by Colbert pokes fun at the NYTimes banning the use of the word “Tweet”. My favorite line: “The Times Standards Editor, Phil Corbett has stated that ‘Tweet may fade into oblivion’; well that’s not very nice. Twitter hasn’t banned the word newspaper and those have already faded into oblivion.”
